Mimosas in Biot

There seems to be a festivity of some kind every weekend in the southern parts of France, and this weekend wasn’t an exception. This time we discovered a festival of mimosas in Biot (La fête du mimosa), which is the closest of the small towns near Antibes. You can get there by bus, but even though the distance isn’t great from Antibes, it will easily take half an hour to get there due to the amount of stops and people getting in and out.

The concept for the festivals seems to be the same, at least in the two that I’ve attended. People sell local produce and fast food like crêpes on small stands. Around noon some town officials babble about things after which free food, pieces of pizza and wine, is being served. After the official happenings people browse around the shops and generally just hang out. There really seems to be a sense of community, which often lacks in Finland.

Biot is famous for pottery and glass work, which was eminent in the shop windows. It’s a small town and you can easily see the old parts of town in an hour and there’s not much to do. However, if you feel like chilling out doing nothing, Biot could be one of the places to do just that.
