Being MacGyver

Thursday, March 24th, 2011 at 9:08 | categories: General mumbling, Health

I got sick again (don’t worry mom, just a fever and not as bad as the last time). And as if that’s not enough to ruin a perfectly sunny and warm week, my laptop power adapter stopped working too. What can you do when running a fever except watch movies and tv-series? And how would I fill my duty as a blog writer when I have nothing to write with?

The answer lies in a kitchen knife, crappy scissors and gift wrapping tape. I played a little bit around with the power cord, and discovered the problem was in the cord or the connector. Fearlessly I took the scissors and cut the cord in two and started peeling it with the kitchen knife. The fault was nowhere to be seen, so I decided to see what’s under the connector’s plastic cover.

Heureka I said, when I discovered the detached soldering. Actually I didn’t say heureka. Who even says that except for random ancient Greek people? Anyhow, I fixed it with some taping magic and I’m powered again!

It works!

The tools. Clearly I'm not MacGyver yet--I should've used duct tape. Also, I didn't really use that tin foil. It's just chilling there.

P.S. A joke for my Finnish readers:

MacGyver meni nakkikioskille ja osti lihapiirakan.

Myyjä sanoi: “2,60€”

MacGyver: “En maksa.”

Myyjä: “Sinähän se ihme mies olet.”

My cellphone charger needs the same procedure, are you up for fixing it? 😀
